Description:

1976 Kawasaki Z400

Here is a little piece of the 1970s Japanese golden era that wears its age very well. The 1976 Kawasaki Z400 was part of Kawasaki's Z-series family, sharing the same design language as the legendary Z900 and Z1000 big brothers but packaged in a lighter, more accessible format that suited a huge range of riders. They were quick, smooth, and reliable in a way that turned a lot of people onto motorcycling in the mid-1970s.

This one has been tastefully nudged toward a cafe racer style while keeping most of its original character intact. The modifications are minimal and reversible: a flat cafe seat with neat tuck-and-roll stitching, trimmed mudguards colour-matched in the original deep purple-violet metallic, flat handlebars replacing the stock items, and small chrome bullet blinkers. The speedo has been kept solo for a cleaner look. Everything else is original.

The paint on this bike is a genuine standout. The purple-violet metallic has aged beautifully, holds a strong gloss and shows no chips, cracks or fading. The KAWASAKI tank lettering is intact. Engine cases are clean and the Kawasaki logos on the clutch and alternator covers are still crisp. The 2-into-1 exhaust, claimed to be a rare factory item, is in excellent chrome condition.

Main item to note is the front wheel spokes, which show visible surface rust and are more than lightly corroded in the close-up photos. This is honestly disclosed in the listing. The spokes are candidates for replacement or a proper clean-up before registration. Aside from that, the 20,452-mile reading is modest and believable for a 50-year-old bike, and the overall presentation is honest and consistent.

Frame number (K4S-12352) and engine number (K4SE-018470) are both clearly photographed and legible. New battery fitted, electrics reportedly functioning. A great entry point into vintage Japanese motorcycling, equally suited to the garage shelf or a Sunday morning run.
