The W140 S-Class is arguably the most over-engineered luxury sedan ever built. Developed with an almost unlimited budget at the height of Mercedes-Benz's technical ambition in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the W140 arrived in 1991 as a statement that no previous S-Class could match.
