Price Guide: $2,800 - $4,800 AUD Omega Speedmaster X-33 Titanium - Reference 3290.50.00 - Calibre 1666 Quartz - Circa 1998 - First Generation Mars Watch Overview Every Speedmaster is a piece of space history, but the X-33 is the Speedmaster that was designed in direct collaboration with the people actually going to space. Through the mid-1990s, ESA and NASA crew members sat down with Omega's engineers and specified precisely what the watch had to do: be lightweight enough for zero-gravity EVA operations, provide multiple independent alarm functions for sleep cycle management and critical event timing, display mission elapsed time and countdown functions simultaneously, offer a second UTC time zone for ground control synchronisation, and illuminate clearly in darkness. The result was the Calibre 1666, a thermo-compensated quartz module with a dedicated LCD panel in the upper portion of the dial and conventional analog hands below for immediate time reading at a glance. Reference 3290.50.00 is the first generation X-33, built entirely from Grade 2 titanium, recognised by its specific pusher configuration and bezel font style. It is the most literal expression of Omega's space tool watch concept. Photos confirm the Calibre 1666 LCD display is active and correctly displaying multi-function readouts across multiple provided images, which is the most critical observation for any prospective buyer: the LCD panel on the first-generation X-33 is now 25 or more years old, and non-functional or degraded displays are a known collector issue with significant service implications. This example shows a functioning module. The analog dial with luminous baton hour indices and broad-arrow hands is clean and legible. The "SPEEDMASTER PROFESSIONAL" designation and Omega logo are clearly present. The rotating titanium bezel carries crisp engraved minute markings and the signature red pip at 12 o'clock. The titanium case and bracelet carry light surface hairlines appropriate to 25 years of wear on a material known to show this naturally. All four pushers are present and correctly positioned. The original Omega-signed deployant clasp with the full "Omega Speedmaster Professional" engraving is confirmed in photos. No box or papers are included with this lot.
