Description:

1985 Bufori Madison

The Bufori Madison is a uniquely Australian creation, hand-built with inspiration drawn from the grand American coupes of the 1930s. Conceived in the early 1980s by Gerry Khouri and his brothers in Sydney, Bufori quickly became synonymous with exclusivity, craftsmanship, and individuality. Each car was painstakingly produced in limited numbers, and this 1985 Madison — Build No. 30 — is an exceptionally rare survivor that represents the roots of the brand.
This particular example shows only 7,212 kilometres and remains in outstanding, original condition. Powered by a water-cooled Subaru horizontally opposed engine, it delivers lively performance thanks to its lightweight fibreglass body. Finished in brown with period-correct styling, the Madison retains its original paint, which has aged remarkably well. The vendor notes that, being fibreglass-bodied, rust is not an issue.

Culturally, Bufori has a fascinating legacy. Inspired by the Great Gatsby’s Duesenberg, the Madison epitomised the glamour of 1930s motoring reimagined for the 1980s. Its very name is an acronym: Beautiful, Unique, Fantastic, Original, Romantic, Irresistible — a bold statement that captured the vision of the Khouri brothers. The Madison cemented Bufori as a boutique Australian manufacturer before the company expanded to Malaysia in the 1990s, where it continues to build ultra-luxury cars for wealthy clients, sometimes costing millions.
