1936 Harley-Davidson VLD

A classic pre-war Harley-Davidson V-twin with sidecar, finished in Red and Black, showing an indicated 6,910 miles. A rare surviving example of Harley’s mid-1930s flathead era.


Powered by a V-twin petrol engine paired with a manual transmission and belt drive, this VLD presents as an older restoration and has been with only three owners. The bike is understood to have remained in Melbourne for most of its life and has not been started for approximately 10 years.


Harley-Davidson VLD Model History

Produced between 1930 and 1936, the Harley-Davidson VLD was part of the company’s VL series — a line of robust 74ci side-valve V-twins known for their reliability and strong torque. The 1936 model year marked the final production run before Harley introduced the new overhead-valve Knucklehead, making late VLDs particularly sought after. These motorcycles were popular for both civilian and sidecar use, earning a reputation for durability through the Great Depression and into the pre-war period.
