Jehangir Sabavala (1922–2011) was one of India’s most distinguished modern artists, renowned for his serene landscapes and masterful use of colour, light, and form. Born into an affluent Parsi family in Mumbai, Sabavala pursued his artistic education in Europe, where he was influenced by Western modernist movements. Despite these influences, he remained deeply connected to India, creating a unique visual language that blended international modernism with a distinctly Indian sensibility. In recognition of his contribution to art and culture, he was awarded the Padma Shri, one of India’s highest civilian honours.
