Description:

1956 DKW 250cc R

A charming mid-1950s German motorcycle, finished in White and showing an indicated 14,692 miles. This classic DKW represents a fascinating era of lightweight European engineering and post-war mobility.

Powered by a 250cc single-cylinder two-stroke petrol engine paired with a manual transmission and chain drive, the DKW 250cc R was designed to be simple, efficient and reliable for everyday road use. This example is offered as a classic project, with the vendor advising it could not be started at the time of inspection and the working condition currently unknown.

DKW 250cc R Model History

DKW (Dampf-Kraft-Wagen) was one of the world’s largest motorcycle manufacturers during the 1930s–1950s and a pioneer of two-stroke engine technology. In the post-war years, models like the 250cc R played a key role in rebuilding European transport, offering affordable, lightweight motorcycles that were easy to maintain and economical to run. DKW’s engineering influence extended well beyond motorcycles, eventually forming part of Auto Union, the company that would later become Audi. Today, surviving DKW motorcycles are increasingly sought after for their historical significance, distinctive design and mechanical simplicity.
