Description / Overview:
The W116 450 SEL is the car that defined what a proper S-Class should be. Long wheelbase, V8, and built to a standard that Mercedes has not equalled since. This example is a genuine Australian-delivered car with matching numbers, factory cruise control, and one of the most complete documentation packs you will find on a 46-year-old German classic. Owner's manual, cruise control instruction tag, 1979 Australian emission systems manual, vehicle keys wallet, and NSW registration history are all present. The interior is remarkably preserved, particularly the rear seat and dashboard, which is uncracked.
The car does not currently start, and both rear doors will not unlock or open. These are the defining issues that place this firmly in project territory. On the W116, rear door failure usually points to a vacuum system problem in the central locking, which is a known and repairable issue. The no-start condition requires diagnosis. The vendor has included a spare radiator and URO parts components in the boot, along with the self-leveling rear suspension components, which suggests the previous owner had plans for this car.
