Description / Overview:
The W123 280CE is the one the collectors want. The pillarless coupe body sets it apart from the sedan, and they made far fewer of them. Red over tan is a classic combination on these cars and this one is genuinely complete - all glass present, all chrome intact, all the right badges in the right places. The M110 2.8-litre straight-six is one of the smoothest engines Mercedes ever made, and it presents as complete and original in the engine bay.
This car has had one owner from new, which goes a long way on a 40-year-old classic. It was regularly serviced and maintained according to the vendor. The known issues are clearly disclosed: sun damage has affected the horizontal painted surfaces - the trunk lid and roof show clear coat failure from years of Australian sunshine - the driver's window and rear passenger window need attention, and the rubber seals have cracked with age. These are the expected compromises of an Australian-stored classic coupe that has not been freshly restored. The vertical panels - the doors, fenders, and quarters - retain their gloss and the rear end is in excellent condition.
