1966 Plymouth Barracuda Fastback - Maroon - 70,473 Miles - 225ci Slant Six, Starts and Runs, Spare Parts Included
1966 Plymouth Barracuda two-door fastback finished in Maroon (paint code PP1). Left-hand drive, rear-wheel drive, powered by a 225ci (3.7-litre) Slant Six inline-six petrol engine. Odometer indicating 70,473 miles. Seating for five.
Description
The first-generation Plymouth Barracuda is one of those early pony cars that gets overshadowed by the Mustang but has a following all of its own. Built on the Valiant platform, the fastback body with its enormous wraparound rear window was a genuinely distinctive piece of design for 1966. These are getting harder to find in any condition, and this one comes with a running engine and a stash of spare parts to get a restoration rolling.
The body presents in faded Maroon with heavy oxidation across all panels, but the paint is largely intact underneath the chalky surface. Panels appear straight with no obvious signs of major collision damage or prior bodywork. The chrome and brightwork are present but dull. The fender tag is visible and reads body code VP29 (Barracuda fastback) with paint code PP1 (Maroon). The 225ci Slant Six sits in the engine bay looking complete and, per the vendor, starts and runs. The interior needs a full restoration, with deteriorated door panels, a worn driver's seat, and a dash showing its age. Spare parts included with the sale appear to include a replacement carpet kit, weatherstrips, and miscellaneous trim pieces.
First-generation Barracudas in any condition are a solid find. Running examples with spare parts and a straight body give a restorer a genuine head start. Restored Slant Six Barracuda fastbacks in the US market have been trading between US$10,000 and US$25,000 depending on condition, with the Australian market adding a premium for rarity. This one is priced as a project and that is exactly what it is.
