Description / Overview
The MG TC is not a car that needs an introduction. Built between 1945 and 1949, it was the model that introduced lightweight British sports car motoring to the world, particularly to returning American servicemen who had encountered them in Europe. TC/9112 is one of around 10,000 produced, and it wears its age well. The black paint over a green leather interior is a personal choice by a previous owner, but it works, and the car presents as a coherent and attractive package rather than a mixed-message project.
Vendor advises the car was restored by a previous owner who was an active MG club member, and that assessment is broadly supported by the photos. The green leather retrim is cohesive and well-executed, with seats, door cards, and rear bulkhead all finished in matching material with horizontal pleating. The factory identification plates are all present and legible on the firewall, including the main MG Car Company guarantee plate (Car No. TC/9112, Engine No. XPAG 9831), the body plate (Body Type B 280, Body No. 4414 A29418), and the patent plate. The exterior bodywork shows no rust, dents, or collision damage. The XPAG engine bay is honest rather than detailed, with twin SU carburettors present and correct, and the car has been fitted with aftermarket amber turn indicators for road legality. A Brooklands-style four-spoke steering wheel has been fitted. The 19-inch wire wheels with knock-off spinners carry period-correct crossply tyres. The tan canvas soft top is erected and appears serviceable, with side curtains present.
MG TCs in driver-quality condition have been trading strongly. Donington Auctions sold a comparable 1949 TC for A$28,750 in November 2024, and well-restored examples regularly exceed A$40,000-$50,000 at auction. The TC is one of the most recognised and desirable British sports cars of the immediate post-war era, and clean examples with correct running gear and complete factory plates attract strong international interest.
