Right-hand drive.

Description

The Land Rover Perentie 6x6 is one of the most iconic military vehicles Australia has produced. Built by JRA (Jaguar Rover Australia) in Melbourne from the mid-1980s through the late 1990s for the Australian Defence Force, the Perentie program took the standard Defender 110 platform and extended it with a third driven axle to create a genuine six-wheel-drive workhorse. Around 2,500 were built across all variants, and they served with distinction across the ADF including with the SAS. These trucks are now highly sought after by collectors and off-road enthusiasts alike, with ex-SAS examples selling for six figures at auction in recent years.

This example shows just 43,143 kilometres on the odometer, which is remarkably low but not unusual for military vehicles that may have spent years in storage or on base duties. The cabin is pure military specification: utilitarian green vinyl seats, VDO instrumentation, blackout lighting controls, dual fuel tank selector (left and right tanks), and the electrically operated transfer box control for engaging the third axle in cross-country mode. The dashboard features a riveted winch operating instructions plate, confirming this is the FFR (Fitted For Radio) winch variant with a front-mounted drum winch behind the heavy-duty bull bar. Three gear levers control the 5-speed main gearbox, transfer case high/low range, and PTO/diff lock. The exterior wears its Auscam camouflage with the expected service wear, and the bull bar shows the honest marks of bush use. An aftermarket "AWOL Adventures" sticker suggests a period of civilian adventure touring use.

The price guide sits at $20,000 to $30,000, which is realistic for a Perentie 6x6 in running condition with fluid leaks noted by the vendor. Clean, sorted examples have been trading above $40,000, and ex-SAS 6x6 variants have fetched well into six figures. At current bidding of $1,402, this represents exceptional value for one of Australia's most capable off-road platforms.
