This is a genuine 1979 Mercedes-Benz 450SEL (W116), Australian compliance-plated by Daimler-Benz AG in May 1979. Both the compliance plate and the boot badge confirm 450SEL. Important correction from the original listing: this vehicle was listed as a 420SEL, which is incorrect. The 420SEL designation belongs exclusively to the later W126 series from 1986. This is the W116, a fundamentally different and earlier generation. Chassis number 116 033 22 091723 is the correct pre-VIN format for this series and matches the compliance plate.
The car is silver metallic, fitted with the M117 4.5-litre V8 and a 3-speed automatic. It is a long-wheelbase Australian-delivered right-hand drive saloon. Critical condition note: the front hydropneumatic self-levelling suspension has failed and the front of the car has collapsed. It is currently held in place with ratchet straps and is not driveable in its current state. A suspension rebuild or conversion will be required before this car moves under its own power. Bid accordingly.
Lower sills and rocker panels show rust and paint damage on both sides. The right rear wheel arch has active bubbling corrosion. Four mismatched tyres are fitted, all requiring replacement. The engine bay carries the M117 V8 with the air cleaner assembly removed. Engine number was not sighted. This is a restoration and project vehicle, sold as such.
