Description:

1971 Chevrolet Corvette C3 Stingray Convertible - Sting Red - 98,884 Miles - 400ci V8 Automatic

One of the most comprehensively refreshed C3 Stingrays you will find at auction, this 1971 convertible has been treated to an extensive mechanical and cosmetic overhaul and is ready to turn heads on the road or at a show.

Description

The third-generation Corvette Stingray is the quintessential American sports car of the early 1970s. Its wedge-shaped fibreglass body, hidden headlights, and aggressive proportions remain instantly recognisable five decades on. The 1971 model year represents a sweet spot in the C3 timeline, carrying the chrome bumper front end that collectors actively seek before the rubber bumper era arrived in 1973. Convertibles are the most desirable body style in the C3 range, and 400 cubic inch cars are genuinely scarce, making this a compelling triple combination.

This Stingray has been returned to bare fibreglass and resprayed in Sting Red, and the photos confirm a glossy, well-applied finish with good depth and reflection across all panels. The compliance plate is present and legible, confirming February 1971 production. The electric pop-up headlights have been converted to LED and operate via an electric actuator. The new soft top and lining have been fitted, and the vendor has replaced the full rubber seal kit throughout. A new chrome luggage rack, new chrome bumpers, and Tru Ray wire-spoke wheels with BFGoodrich tyres complete the exterior presentation. The black leather interior has been refreshed to a period-correct specification, with factory-option tilt and telescopic steering, power steering, and leather seats all present. The engine bay houses the 400 cubic inch small block paired with a 750DP Holley on alloy heads, performer headers, and a turbo 400 automatic. A four-core radiator, twin SPAL thermo fans, and MSD ignition support reliable performance. Stainless steel exhaust. The odometer reads 98,884 miles.

C3 Stingray convertibles in refreshed condition with documented work are consistently strong auction performers in Australia. Chrome-bumper 1968-1972 cars, particularly 400ci examples, attract serious collector interest from both the local and export markets. This is a car that photographs well, drives well, and speaks to the heart of any muscle car enthusiast.
