Description

The 1963 Dodge Polara 500 was the premium full-size Dodge, sitting above the standard Polara and below the flagship 880. In a year when Detroit confidence was at its absolute peak, the Polara 500 convertible delivered style, performance, and open-air luxury at a compelling price point. The two-door convertible body, Chrysler TorqueFlite automatic, and 318 cubic inch V8 made it a legitimate driver as well as a showpiece. Vendor advises this is one of only 1,528 Polara 500 convertibles manufactured, and the only example of its kind currently in Australia, a claim consistent with the rarity of the model.



Photos across 64 images confirm a high-quality restoration with sympathetic modifications. The turquoise exterior carries excellent depth and gloss across all panels, with consistent panel gaps and straight body lines throughout. The cream convertible top sits cleanly, both raised and folded, with no visible tears or staining. Chrome trim, including the distinctive Polara 500 grille surround, front and rear bumpers, window frames, and body-length chrome spear, presents with age-appropriate patina rather than heavy pitting. The rear fins and full-length chrome side trim are intact and straight. Aftermarket Torq-Thrust style five-spoke alloy wheels replace the factory steel units, giving the car a mild pro-touring stance that suits the period well. Red-painted disc brake calipers are visible at the rear, confirming an aftermarket brake upgrade. The car sits slightly lower than stock, consistent with a suspension modification. Inside, the two-tone turquoise and cream pleated vinyl upholstery is in very good to excellent condition throughout, front and rear, and appears to be a quality restoration or re-trim.
