Description:

1964 Rambler American 330 Sedan - Black - 44,376km - 3.8L Inline 6, 3-Speed Column-Shift Manual - Australian-Assembled, Red Wheels, Whitewalls, Spare Parts Included

A locally assembled Australian Rambler with the rare combination of original black paint, red-painted steel wheels, whitewall tyres, and a comprehensive box of spare parts.

Description

The Rambler American was one of the more interesting chapters in Australian automotive history. From 1961 to 1968, Australian Motor Industries (AMI) in Port Melbourne assembled Ramblers locally for the Australian market, giving them a legitimate Australian provenance that most American imports of the era cannot claim. The AMI compliance plate under the bonnet on this example confirms that local assembly. The 330 designation places it in the mid-range specification, above the base 220 but below the top-spec 440, with the standard 232 cubic inch (3.8-litre) AMC inline-six engine paired to a 3-speed column-mounted manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive. This is a mechanically simple, honest car from an era before electronics made everything complicated.

This particular example stands out immediately for its presentation. The black exterior is complemented by red-painted steel wheels wearing chrome trim rings and period-style whitewall tyres, a combination that looks genuinely striking in person and in photos. The interior is trimmed in red vinyl with black upper door cards, matching the exterior red wheel colour and giving the car a cohesive visual character. The original Rambler All-Transistor AM radio remains in the dashboard, a period-correct factory option that enthusiasts immediately recognise. The odometer reads 44,376 kilometres. The engine bay holds the original 232ci inline six with the period blue air cleaner, complete and original with a recent battery replacement. The vehicle comes with a substantial collection of Rambler spare parts including chrome trim pieces and body components packed in boxes in the boot and interior, a significant bonus for any buyer planning preservation or restoration work.

Original AMI-assembled Ramblers are genuinely uncommon in Australia. The combination of good original condition, distinctive presentation, Australian assembly provenance, and a useful spare parts collection makes this a lot that will appeal strongly to the right buyer in the AMC/Rambler collector community.
