1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 - Candy Apple Red - 351ci Windsor V8, Automatic - 72,749 Miles - Right-Hand Drive

Price Guide: $78,000 - $100,000

1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1, Candy Apple Red with black racing stripes, 351ci Windsor V8, automatic transmission, rear-wheel drive, right-hand drive, 72,749 miles.

Description

The 1970 Mustang Mach 1 is one of the most visually dramatic American muscle cars ever produced. The Mach 1 package transformed the already aggressive 1969-70 Mustang SportsRoof fastback into something genuinely arresting, with its NASA-style hood scoop, bold racing stripes, honeycomb rear panel, and Mach 1 badging throughout. This is the car that defined an era, and in Candy Apple Red with black stripes it looks exactly as it should. The "351" displacement callout on the hood stripe confirms the Windsor V8 spec, paired with an automatic transmission for the kind of effortless muscle car cruising these cars were built for.

The Candy Apple Red paint carries excellent gloss and depth from every angle. The black Mach 1 racing stripes and hood graphics are crisp and well-defined, and the rear honeycomb panel with its sequential taillight clusters is exactly correct. Aftermarket Bullitt-style five-spoke alloys in black with a polished lip are fitted, complemented by rear window louvres that are a popular period-correct accessory addition. The rear spoiler and dual exhaust tips complete the profile. The interior is largely correct to the Mach 1 specification. The woodgrain dash applique, the in-dash analog clock, the Mach 1 badging on the instrument cluster surround, the Mach 1 floor mats, and the Mustang running horse emblem on the glove box and door panels all present well. The dashboard woodgrain is in excellent condition with no peeling or cracking. The period-style radio has been replaced with a quality era-appropriate reproduction unit. The automatic shifter and console are correct and presentable. Seat upholstery shows honest age-appropriate wear on the bolsters, consistent with a 72,749-mile driver that has been used and enjoyed.

The 351ci V8 is painted Ford Blue with finned valve covers and a blue air cleaner, looking correct and period-appropriate in the engine bay. An aftermarket aluminium radiator has been fitted, and the battery has been relocated to the driver's side. The engine bay shows honest patina on the core support brackets, consistent with the car's age and mileage. The trunk shows an unrestored, unlined floor, which is typical for driver-quality examples that have not been subject to a full ground-up restoration. The VIN on the dash decodes as a 1970 Dearborn-built Mustang Fastback with the 351 Cleveland option, consistent with the listing. Comparable 1970 Mach 1s in similar driver condition have been trading in the AUD $78,000 - $100,000 range in the Australian market, making this an accessible entry point into genuine first-generation Mach 1 ownership.
