The FG Falcon XR8 ute is the last of a genuine Australian tradition, and this 2008 example takes it up several notches. Finished in the unmistakable Orange Thunder with black BOSS graphics, lowered on aftermarket wheels and sitting over Brembo brakes, this is not a standard XR8 ute. The build plate confirms the Boss 290 5.4-litre V8, a step up from the standard XR8 unit, and the vendor-supplied service records document nearly $10,000 in recent mechanical work.
Description
The FG XR8 ute always attracted a devoted following, and the Boss 290-engined examples are the pick of the range. The 5.4-litre naturally aspirated V8 delivers its 290 horsepower through a ZF six-speed automatic gearbox, and in this case the transmission has been comprehensively rebuilt, including a reconditioned torque converter, new transmission oil, and an external trans cooler, all completed by IzaBros performance shop in May 2023 for $8,220. The drivetrain is in good nick and the ZF's known weak points have been addressed. A further $1,550 of work in November 2023 covered an ABS module replacement, a steering sensor, and a full recode and calibration. This is a ute that has had real money spent on it by an owner who clearly cared.
The exterior is a standout. Orange Thunder paint holds excellent depth and gloss across all panels, body lines are straight, and panel gaps are even throughout. The ute rides on dark multi-spoke alloys with a red pinstripe lip and sits low on aftermarket suspension. Brembo brakes with slotted rotors are fitted front and rear. The tub features a black hard tonneau cover and a stainless steel roll bar. Black BOSS graphics run down the doors and tub. The projector headlights and FPV-style front end complete a genuinely aggressive package. At 184,552 kilometres, the presentation is well above what you would expect.
Inside, XR-embossed black leather seats show age-appropriate wear, BOSS XR8 floor mats are fitted, the centre console has been dressed with carbon fibre-look trim, and an aftermarket dual-gauge pod sits atop the dash. The standard FG touchscreen audio, climate controls, and steering wheel-mounted controls are all present. The vendor has also supplied the original service book.
