The Story
The first-generation KE11 Corolla arrived in Australia via AMI at a time when affordable, reliable motoring was changing the way ordinary Australians lived. This example wears its original Betty Wattle factory paint (Dulon acrylic lacquer, code 566-10429, still on the door jamb) and carries the rare Toyoglide 2-speed automatic transmission, identified by the chrome Toyoglide script badge on the boot lid and the matching selector escutcheon inside. The 1,166cc 3K four-cylinder engine (bore 75mm, stroke 66mm) is confirmed matching-numbers, with engine number K0195034 visible on the block and recorded in the Toyota data plate under the bonnet. The AMI compliance plate reads Body No. K09-1967, dated 7-70, confirming July 1970 assembly.
Externally, the Betty Wattle cream-yellow paint holds genuine gloss across all panels. The body is straight, panel gaps are even, and there is no evidence of major accident damage. Chrome trim is intact across the grille, bumpers, and body strips. The vertical-bar chrome grille with Toyota crown emblem is present and complete. The interior retains original black vinyl upholstery, the period star-pattern carpet, the original steering wheel, and a working radio.
