<b>Description</b><br>
A feat of draftsmanship in blue ballpoint pen. The sheet is filled edge-to-edge with a labyrinthine, horror vacui architectural cityscape that blends Byzantine domes, arched doorways, stepped pyramidal forms, and striped and checkered patterning into an impossible, interlocking urban vision. Five or more human eyes are embedded within the architecture, giving the city an anthropomorphic and watchful presence. A large serpentine organic form is intertwined through the buildings. Radiating sunburst patterns and cracked mosaic-textured domes add to the otherworldly atmosphere.<br><br>
The entire composition is executed in a single shade of blue-violet ballpoint pen using hatching, cross-hatching and solid fill to create remarkable tonal range without any color. The level of detail and patience required to produce this work is considerable. Signed "ISHISHI" in blue ballpoint at lower right. No verso photo available in the listing but work is consistent with the ISHISHI collection throughout this auction.<br><br>
