The VC Brock Story
Before the VH Group A, before the Walkinshaw, before Peter Brock became a name even non-car people knew, there was the VC Brock. In 1980, HDT Special Vehicles took the new VC Commodore SL/E, applied their full performance and appearance package, and produced 500 cars that set Australian performance motoring on a new course. This is Build #125, one of the first 25 percent of cars off the line, and it has spent the last decade in private collection ownership away from daily roads.
The compliance plate from the door jamb reads 11/80 and confirms VIN AVC027405M. The build plate in the engine bay records Model VC8VX69, engine code L31 and transmission code M21, confirming the original 308ci V8 and 4-speed manual are both factory fitted and matching. Body number 725302M, trim code 1189-77Y and factory paint code 568-10981 are all clearly stamped. Both plates carry their original rivets, undisturbed. This is a properly numbered, matching car with photographic documentation of every plate.
Externally the car presents very well. The maroon paint delivers consistent depth and gloss across all panels with no obvious fade or colour mismatch. The full HDT exterior package is present and correct: factory front air dam with lower spoiler, boot lip spoiler, full-length HDT//Commodore side stripe in excellent condition, Peter Brock signature quarter badges, HDT alloy-style wheels with gold Racing script centre caps, and rear quarter louvres. Vendor advises the paint may have been resprayed at some stage. The only non-original exterior item is a towbar at the rear. Panel gaps are even and the body presents straight from every angle. The engine bay shows the 308ci V8 with chrome HDT air cleaner assembly, maroon-painted rocker covers, and the period "Start and Go Bathurst" battery. Air conditioning is fitted as standard to VC Brock specification.
Inside, the maroon velour trim runs throughout, covering the dash, door cards, seats and rear cabin. The interior presents in excellent condition with no visible tears, significant wear or damage. The HDT 3-spoke steering wheel carries the HDT centre badge and Peter Brock script on the lower spoke. The HDT gold gear knob sits on the 4-speed shifter. The factory instrument cluster, period head unit, factory clock and A/C controls are all in place. The car comes with a comprehensive collection of original service manuals, including Holden Commodore VC Series Service Manual, two VC Series supplements, VB Series Service Manual, and additional documentation in a sealed protective sleeve.
