Overview
During the 1930s, General Motors-Holden's assembled Chevrolet vehicles for the Australian and New Zealand markets at their local plants, producing right hand drive models with components sourced from both the USA and Canada. This 1935 Chevrolet sedan is one of those Australian-assembled examples, a fact confirmed by the McKinnon Industries Delco-Remy generator tag from St. Catharines, Ontario, a supplier that exclusively served the GMH Australian assembly operations. Right hand drive, mechanically intact, and carrying a Victorian registration history to 1996, this is a genuine piece of Australian pre-war automotive history.
The 1935 Chevrolet represented a styling high point for the marque, with its distinctive vertical bar grille incorporating the Chevrolet bowtie badge, integrated headlights with chrome bezels, flowing front guards, and a rounded roofline that owed much to the era's aircraft-inspired design language. This example is finished in deep blue with red wire wheels and period-correct whitewall tyres, and is fitted with a rear-mounted spare tyre on a luggage carrier. The body presents well across all panels in studio photography with good paint gloss and straight lines throughout.
Inside, the brown leather front and rear bench seats are in sound, presentable condition. The original instrument cluster is intact, housing a speedometer reading 44,237, an amperes gauge, and a combined gasoline and oil pressure gauge. The Throttle and Choke knobs, Lights and Starter buttons are all present and original, as is the three-spoke floor-mounted gear lever and original floor matting. The large diameter Bakelite steering wheel is correct for the period. Vendor advises the car has had a full cylinder head overhaul and fuel system work carried out. The engine bay houses the 207 cubic inch inline six-cylinder engine with updated ignition leads.
