Overview
The Ford XP Falcon holds a special place in Australian motoring history. Built by Ford Australia and proven tough enough to complete the gruelling Around Australia endurance trials, the XP earned a reputation for reliability that outlasted the model itself. Coupe variants are the most sought after in the XP range, with the Futura trim adding chrome brightwork, a two-tone interior and additional refinement over standard models. Good examples are genuinely hard to find.
This particular Futura Coupe is finished in striking red with a white vinyl roof, cream and brown bench interior, and period whitewall tyres on chrome hubcaps. The build plate reads Serial JG10ER-35456, Paint code DDD and Trim 5469, placing this firmly in correct period specification. Panels are straight and well aligned throughout, chrome trim and bumpers present in excellent condition, and the paintwork carries a deep gloss. It is a genuinely beautiful example of the model.
Under the bonnet sits the 200 cubic inch (3.3-litre) inline six-cylinder engine, updated with a Holley 350 carburettor, chrome air cleaner, extractor exhaust headers and a Ford 9-inch rear differential. The front brakes have been converted to disc. All modifications have been engineered and approved by the Western Australian Department of Transport, with the approval documentation on file and photographed. Supplementary oil pressure and temperature gauges have been mounted on the centre console for driver awareness. A Pioneer head unit has been fitted discreetly into the dash cavity. The automatic transmission carries the period-correct FORDOMATIC 35 badge on the body.
