This 1976 Chrysler Charger VK was built to K16 Police Special specification at Chrysler Australia's Adelaide plant in August 1976 and, vendor advises, entered service with the NSW Police Highway Patrol in early 1977 under registration JDB 805. The build plate confirms K16 specification with option codes covering the Police Special package, and the original Chrysler Australia compliance plate remains in place alongside a Queensland Government Modification Plate dated June 2020, certifying the performance upgrades carried out by the owner.
The matching-numbers 5.2-litre (318ci) V8 is still present and retains its original block. The vendor advises subsequent performance development has included alloy cylinder heads, an Edelbrock-style performance intake manifold, MSD ignition system, electric thermo fan and a disc-brake rear-end conversion, all certified under the Queensland modification plate. The result is a car that, vendor advises, has recorded an 11.54-second quarter-mile pass at Mopar Sunday, while retaining its matching-numbers engine block. A 3-speed TorqueFlite automatic puts the power to the rear wheels via Chrysler alloy 5-spoke wheels shod in Kumho 225/60 ZR15 tyres.
