The NL Fairlane Concorde was Ford Australia's flagship family sedan in the late 1990s, and this 1998 example represents the pick of the range. Under the bonnet sits the Tickford High Output 4.0-litre EFI inline six, the same 185kW tune fitted to the legendary EL XR6, paired here with a four-speed automatic and the sporting 3.45:1 rear differential ratio (vendor advises). It is the combination that makes an NL Fairlane genuinely enjoyable to drive rather than merely comfortable.
The engine history on this car is worth reading carefully. The logbook documents a bottom end rebuild and port and polished cylinder head carried out at Motafit Service Centre, Croydon at 271,442km. Prior to that, Ringwood Automatics attended to the automatic transmission at 213,100km. A full custom twin exhaust system has also been fitted, giving the six-cylinder a distinctive exhaust note to match its performance credentials.
